2/6 Semi Quick Movie Review

I saw two movies this week, so I thought I would offer my quick impression of them. I might see one more tonight, but have to wait and see. First off was Coraline, by the creator of Nightmare Before Christmas. First thing I noticed was the animation seemed incredibly chopping and lagged. One of my colleagues told me it's stop motion, but I've seen lots of stop motion and it's never made me feel like I'm watching a robotic presentation. The story was ok, but there were a couple of things I found disturbing. Coraline finds these other children's ghosts in the wall from her Other Mother's other kids. Since when do we reference murdered or at least neglected to death kids in a PG children's movie? They make references to ghosts and scary imagery before, but murdered kids? Secondly, and this I found more disturbing, was a semi nude scene. You know if movies or television shows when someone is naked and you blur the image or put something in front of it. They had two rather large women who were performers. One of them was wearing almost like a thong and no top on with just a star covering each side on top. It showed an awful lot of skin for a PG movie or am I just being critical? It sure seems like PG used to not let you get away with as much as it does nowadays.

Next movie was "He's Just Not That Into You", which I had been looking forward to seeing. They've been advertising it for over a year and it has an excellent cast. Right away you feel for the characters because you've been there before or at least know what it feels like. They cover every aspect of relationships, from marriage to long-term dating to just started dating. They show you just how difficult it is to figure out if the other person is interested and what men and women are really thinking. I really liked the mix of characters with the interview style mixed in. It felt like it was a little on the long side and the hints of infidelity made me uncomfortable. I'm happily married and grateful I don't have to be on the dating scene. It's filled with confusion and uncertainty and too much pain for me to want to deal with.

Well, I hope you enjoyed my semi Quick Movie Review. I will be doing more as they come up, but it might be awhile before I get to see something else. Pink Panther 2 might be on the horizon, but just have to see how it goes, shall we?
